WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION

The government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has launched a US$50 million climate resilience and water infrastructure initiative. Prime Minister Dr.

Godwin Friday announced this project on March 3, 2026, during a press conference following the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting. Funded in part by US$40 million from the Green Climate Fund, the initiative will build solar-powered desalination plants in Bequia, Canouan, Mayreau, and Union Island to address water scarcity. Additionally, improvements will be made to water storage and distribution, including six new storage tanks in Fitz Hughes, Georgetown, and Kingstown Park.
