Stakeholders Advocate for Enhanced Waste Management in Nairobi
Stakeholders in Nairobi County are urging for the implementation of inclusive waste management systems and enforcement of current laws, particularly the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework. This initiative is crucial for addressing climate change and pollution challenges in the region.

During a forum organized by the Nairobi City County Government (NCCG) and the Centre for Environment Justice and Development (CEJAD), stakeholders called for effective waste management strategies to combat climate change. Participants highlighted the need for collaboration and innovative solutions to address the city's waste challenges, emphasizing the role of all societal sectors.
The NCCG is developing a Sustainable Waste Management Policy to enhance local systems. The forum identified that poor waste management disproportionately impacts vulnerable groups, particularly near dumpsites, and stressed that organic waste contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. Transitioning to a circular economy will improve resource efficiency and reduce pollution, aligning with broader national climate goals.
