Stantec Leads AI Initiative with WSSC Water and Prince William Water for Wastewater Operations
Stantec is leading a 31-month Water Research Foundation project to apply AI in wastewater treatment, co-funded by WSSC Water and Prince William Water. The project aims to enhance operational guidance and decision-making using AI and will develop 'Intelligent Assets' to modernize infrastructure while retaining data ownership. The initiative is designed to address real operational challenges faced by utilities and will produce a research report and implementation playbook for AI adoption.

Stantec will spearhead a 31-month initiative aimed at integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into wastewater treatment operations, co-funded by the Water Research Foundation, WSSC Water, and Prince William Water. The project involves developing 'Intelligent Assets' that provide real-time operational guidance based on treatment data.
WRF will cover 50% of the funding, while the utilities will contribute the remainder. The initiative focuses on practical applications of AI to solve specific operational challenges, incorporating findings from WSSC Water's Piscataway facility and Prince William Water's H.L.
Mooney facility. Deliverables include a WRF research report and a Utility AI Implementation Playbook.
