Statkraft Applies for Hitra Wind Farm Repowering License in Norway
Statkraft has submitted a license application to repower the Hitra wind farm, aiming for nearly double its current output. The project, which includes a zoning plan proposal, is expected to enhance renewable energy production and generate substantial local revenue.

Statkraft is seeking a license to repower the Hitra wind farm, aiming to significantly increase its capacity. The project proposes to upgrade the existing 24 turbines to 12-15 new turbines, projected to produce approximately 250 gigawatt-hours annually, effectively doubling the output while reducing the number of turbines.
Since its commissioning in 2004, the current wind farm has generated nearly 2.7 terawatt-hours. If approved, the project is expected to generate NOK 15 million in annual revenues for the municipality. The licensing process will occur alongside a zoning plan proposal, with public consultation anticipated in summer 2026. This initiative underscores the reliance on wind power to meet growing energy demands in Norway.
