Statkraft Launches Ireland's First Four-Hour Battery Storage System in Co Offaly
Statkraft has launched Ireland's first four-hour grid-scale Battery Electric Storage System at its Cushaling windfarm in Co Offaly. The 22.8-megawatt system can supply power to 10,000 homes for four hours, enhancing the stability of the electricity grid and reducing energy costs. The project aligns with Ireland's renewable energy goals and includes plans for a solar farm. Statkraft has invested over €1 billion in the Irish renewable market since 2018.

Statkraft has introduced Ireland's first four-hour grid-scale Battery Electric Storage System at its Cushaling windfarm in Co Offaly. This 22.8-megawatt system can provide renewable electricity to 10,000 homes for four hours after wind generation ceases.
It can be activated by Eirgrid in less than one tenth of a second. Statkraft aims to capture wasted wind energy, reducing electricity costs and enhancing grid stability. The Cushaling site will also host a solar farm, creating a hybrid clean energy hub. Statkraft has invested over €1 billion in the Irish renewable sector since 2018 and plans to support local sustainability initiatives.
