Statkraft's Wind Repowering Project in Spain Achieves Significant Capacity Increase and Community Investment
Statkraft has completed the first phase of the Montes de Cierzo wind repowering project in Navarra, increasing capacity by 50% to 90 MW and doubling energy production to 300 GWh/year. This project exemplifies a successful model for community investment in renewable energy, with over 250 local investors contributing €5 million.

The Montes de Cierzo wind project in Navarra has replaced 44 old turbines with 10 new ones, enhancing capacity from 60 MW to 90 MW. The energy output is expected to reach 300 GWh/year, with an addition of battery storage capacity of 14.26 MW to stabilize supply.
Statkraft has recycled nearly all components from the old turbines, including over 1,900 tonnes of steel and 3 tonnes of aluminum. The project has secured €4.6 million in public funding from IDAE as part of the Circular Repowering initiative.
Spain's government aims to strengthen its renewable energy supply chain to speed up the energy transition, with €330 million allocated for energy transition-related industrial projects, including wind energy. The successful community co-investment initiative demonstrates the potential for local engagement in renewable energy projects.
