Staunton Crossing Development Plan Under Review for Potential Data Center
Staunton City Council is reassessing a 2019 development strategy for the 300-acre Staunton Crossing, with no current agreements for a data center. The city aims to attract industries capable of generating long-term job growth and tax revenue.

The Staunton City Council is currently re-evaluating its 2019 development plan for the 300-acre Staunton Crossing property to enhance its appeal to large-scale industries, including data centers. Although a marketing document featuring a data center has generated inquiries, no formal agreements are in place.
Economic consultant Tim Davey emphasized the need for the city to attract 'anchor tenants' like pharmaceuticals and manufacturing, while also addressing the changing market landscape for data centers. Virginia's data center market has seen a surge, with the potential for substantial tax revenues.
However, some council members express concerns regarding the environmental impact and community opposition to data centers. The council did not reach a decision, but the focus remains on ensuring that future projects align with community interests.
