Steinbeis Projects Target Decarbonisation of Energy Intensive Industries
The Steinbeis energy cluster comprises five projects aimed at decarbonising energy-intensive industries. The initiatives focus on hydrogen utilization, carbon capture, and dynamic adaptation to renewable energy, addressing critical challenges in emissions reduction.

The Steinbeis energy cluster includes four active projects and one completed initiative, targeting the decarbonisation of energy-intensive processes. Projects such as H2GLASS and MOST-H2 explore hydrogen applications in the glass and transport sectors, while COREu and CAPTUS focus on carbon capture and usage in steel, cement, and chemicals.
COREu examines carbon storage hubs as shared infrastructure, whereas CAPTUS addresses carbon capture in sectors where electrification is challenging. Social acceptance of carbon storage remains a significant hurdle. With industrial emissions in the EU still constituting over half of total greenhouse gas emissions, the urgency for effective decarbonisation strategies is heightened, necessitating comprehensive policy support.
