Østfold Energi Collaborates on Data Centers for Google in Norway's Sarpsborg and Valer

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Norwegian utility Østfold Energi is developing data center plots in Sarpsborg and Valer, collaborating with local municipalities. Google is likely to develop the Valer site, having applied for network capacity.

The Sarpsborg project, owned by Østfold Energi (66%) and Sarpsborg Municipality (34%), is in the initial phase, with zoning work expected to conclude by 2027. The site covers 1,740 acres and could support approximately 300MW. The Valer project is managed by KI Våler AS, majority-owned by Østfold Energi, which has granted Google development rights. Østfold Energi began exploring data center opportunities in 2019.
