Storm to Build 200 MW Battery Storage Project in Ruien, Belgium
A new battery park is set to be built in Ruien, Belgium, with a total capacity of 200 MW and 800 MWh storage. The project involves 180 lithium-ion battery containers and will be operational by autumn 2027, following groundworks completion in autumn 2026. The investment exceeds 100 million euros, with the site suitable for energy storage as per local planning regulations.

Storm is developing a 200 MW battery storage project in Ruien, Belgium, at the site of a decommissioned power plant. The project will involve 180 containers of lithium-ion batteries, providing a total storage capacity of 800 MWh, equivalent to nearly 62 million smartphone batteries.
Groundworks are expected to finish in autumn 2026, followed by the installation and activation of the batteries, projected to be operational by autumn 2027. The total investment exceeds 100 million euros, leveraging local planning for energy storage. Elia will extend a cable to connect the site to the high-voltage grid in Avelgem.
