Study Finds Rocket Launch Noise at Andøya Spaceport Does Not Affect Fish Behavior

SPACE ECONOMY

Research from the Institute of Marine Research shows that noise from rocket launches at Andøya Spaceport does not extend far enough into the sea to influence fish behavior in vital fishing areas off Andøya. Fishermen have expressed concerns about potential disturbances from increased space activity.

However, researcher Tonje Nesse Forland asserts that the measured sound levels are below thresholds that usually provoke responses from fish. Additionally, shallow waters, islets, and reefs near the spaceport help to attenuate the noise before it reaches fish habitats.
