Study Highlights Potential of 37 GW Indian Offshore Wind Industry by 2030
India is poised to harness its offshore wind (OSW) potential with a government target of 37 GW of OSW licenses to be auctioned by the end of 2030. A study by BVG Associates, supported by ClimateHub India Advisors, indicates that achieving this target could result in a ₹2,40,400 crore (approximately USD 28 billion) boost to the economy and generate 1,280,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) years of employment.
The study emphasizes the necessity of developing a robust domestic value chain, leveraging India's manufacturing capabilities in nacelle assembly and component production. It identifies 62 key job roles for skills development, including technicians and project managers, and offers 22 recommendations to maximize the OSW opportunity. Conducted from October 2024 to January 2026, the study highlights the importance of national and state policies to attract investment and build a successful OSW industry.
