Successful Maiden Flight-Trial of India's TARA Weapon Conducted by DRDO and IAF
The Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) have completed the maiden flight-trial of the Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation (TARA) weapon, marking a significant advancement in indigenous defence capabilities. TARA is designed to convert unguided warheads into precision-guided munitions, enhancing lethality against ground targets.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) have conducted the first flight-trial of the Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation (TARA) weapon off Odisha's coast. TARA, developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI) and other DRDO labs, is India's initial indigenous glide weapon system aimed at transforming unguided munitions into precision-guided weapons.
The kit incorporates low-cost systems and has begun production with Development cum Production Partners (DcPP) and domestic industries. The Indian government is prioritizing defense research, allocating 25% of the R&D budget to industry and startups, which have thus far utilized over Rs 4,500 crore. This trial signifies a strategic step in enhancing India's defense capabilities.
