Sudan Initiates Geological Survey to Enhance Mining Sector Diversification
Sudan has launched a geological survey to update its mineral map, aiming to diversify its mining sector beyond gold. This initiative is crucial for economic recovery and seeks to reposition the industry towards industrial and energy minerals, responding to rising global demand.

On July 16, Sudan initiated a geological survey intended to diversify its mining sector, which has been heavily reliant on gold. The project aims to provide precise geological data to enhance planning and attract investment.
The initiative follows significant losses in the mining sector due to internal conflict that began in April 2023. The Ministry of Minerals indicates that Sudan possesses various mineral resources, including iron, chromium, copper, silver, and gypsum. By shifting from raw material exports to domestic processing, the country aims to increase value addition and job creation, thereby strengthening the sector's economic contribution.
