Sudan Politician Criticizes Quintet Mechanism for Political Transition Failures

Babiker Faisal, leader of the Unionist Alliance, criticized the Quintet Mechanism for straying from its commitment to establish a preparatory Committee for inclusive political dialogue in Sudan. He claimed this deviation has led to the invitation of groups without clear criteria, undermining Sudanese ownership of the process.

The Somoud and Tasis coalitions have boycotted recent consultations in Addis Ababa due to disagreements regarding the mechanism's actions. Faisal also expressed concerns over the military's influence, alleging that the army seeks to legitimize its position by creating a deceptive political process amidst ongoing conflicts. Unity among civilian forces is essential for achieving a legitimate political settlement.
