Sugar Grove Considers Data Center Regulation Changes Amid Aurora's New Rules
Sugar Grove is evaluating its data center regulations following Aurora's adoption of stringent rules. The potential changes aim to manage future developments amid rising public concerns and economic considerations.

In response to new regulations in Aurora, Sugar Grove is deliberating modifications to its data center rules. Currently, a data center development is contracted to be built within the next three to four years as part of a mixed-use project on 760 acres.
Discussions revealed a lack of consensus for an immediate moratorium on data centers, although some trustees suggested tightening regulations to require special use permits. The village board noted that existing zoning does not currently support new data centers due to a lack of designated districts, necessitating rezoning for any new projects. The proposed zoning changes would require a public hearing before approval, reflecting the board's cautious approach to balancing community concerns with economic development needs.
