Sugino Machine and Fraunhofer IPA Expand R&D Partnership to Cosmetics Production
Fraunhofer IPA and Sugino Machine have expanded their collaboration to include joint research on cosmetics production, starting January 2026. This partnership builds on their successful research in lithium-ion battery production and focuses on formulation development and dispersion technology for cosmetics. The high-pressure dispersion process enhances product stability and effectiveness. The Fraunhofer IPA invites companies to test formulations using wet jet milling technology, benefiting small and medium enterprises with rapid innovation testing.

Fraunhofer IPA and Sugino Machine have expanded their partnership to include cosmetics production research as of January 2026. The collaboration, which began in 2021, previously focused on biopolymer technologies and lithium-ion battery production.
The high-pressure dispersion process, specifically wet jet milling, replaces solvent-based processing with environmentally friendly water-based technologies. This method enhances the stability and absorption of cosmetic formulations, addressing issues such as ingredient separation. The joint laboratory in Stuttgart facilitates technology testing for companies, enabling rapid product development and access to advanced dispersion technology.
