Sunlight Group Completes ReLiFe Project to Enhance Lithium Battery Recycling in Greece
The Sunlight Group has finalized the ReLiFe project, aimed at boosting lithium battery recycling capabilities. The initiative established a pilot recycling unit in Xanthi, Greece, with a capacity of 500 tonnes per year. This unit can process various lithium-ion battery chemistries. The project results will inform a techno-economic study for a full-scale recycling plant. Co-funded by EIT RawMaterials and supported by the EU, ReLiFe underscores the importance of sustainable recovery of critical raw materials.

The Sunlight Group has completed the ReLiFe project, enhancing its lithium battery recycling capacity. A pilot recycling unit has been established in Xanthi, Greece, capable of processing 500 tonnes of lithium-ion batteries annually.
This unit can handle all types of lithium battery chemistries. The project's findings will lead to a techno-economic study for an industrial-scale recycling facility. The ReLiFe project, co-funded by EIT RawMaterials and the EU, aligns with Sunlight's expertise in metal recovery from lead acid batteries at its Komotini plant, a major secondary lead producer in Europe.
