Supercritical Solutions and Shell Partner for High-Pressure Hydrogen Electrolyser

HYDROGENELECTROLYZER

Supercritical Solutions Ltd and Shell Global Solutions International B.V. have entered a non-exclusive agreement for a feasibility study to advance Supercritical's high-pressure membraneless electrolyser by 2027. The study aims to evaluate performance metrics, safety protocols, and techno-economic factors for producing ultra-pure hydrogen at over 200 bar.

The electrolyser design eliminates the need for compressors, reducing complexity and costs associated with green hydrogen production. Shell's support follows initial interest in Supercritical from its New Energy Challenge in 2021, leading to a £14 million Series A funding round with Toyota Ventures. The partnership is positioned to address nearly 90% of global industrial hydrogen demand, promoting a cleaner hydrogen economy and aiming for pilot systems operational by 2027.
