Suriname Government and Suralco Sign Funding Agreement for Community Development Projects
The Government of Suriname and Suralco have entered into a Funding Agreement to support community development projects in areas affected by historical bauxite mining and the Afobaka Hydroelectric Power Plant. This partnership will create a Development Fund, with each party contributing up to USD 240,000 annually to finance up to twelve projects per year, focusing on small-scale production, social infrastructure, and other community needs. The agreement has an initial term of two years, with the possibility of extension up to five years.

The Government of the Republic of Suriname and Suralco have signed a Funding Agreement to support community development projects in areas impacted by historical bauxite mining and the Afobaka Hydroelectric Power Plant. This public-private partnership will facilitate sustainable development through a jointly financed Development Fund, with each party contributing up to USD 240,000 annually.
The fund will enable up to twelve community projects per year, each receiving a maximum of USD 40,000. Eligible communities can propose initiatives focusing on small-scale production, social infrastructure, healthcare, skills development, and climate challenges. The agreement has an initial term of two years, extendable to a maximum of five years.
