Suspension of Launch Services in Karnataka Due to Low Water Levels
The Inland Water Transport Department has suspended launch services in the Linganamakki reservoir until further notice due to safety concerns arising from low water levels. This disruption impacts thousands of residents who rely on this transport link for essential access to markets and healthcare.

As of June 2, the launch service connecting Halke and Muppane across the Linganamakki reservoir has been suspended due to safety issues linked to receding water levels. The service, crucial for residents of Karuru and Bharangi hoblis, typically facilitates daily travel to Kargal and Jog for governance and market access.
Current water levels have dropped to 10 to 12 feet, posing operational risks due to submerged obstacles. The Inland Water Transport Department plans to resume services post-monsoon when water depth increases by 40 to 50 feet. This service usually accommodates 300 to 400 passengers daily and up to 1,000 on weekends, indicating significant dependency on this transport route.
