Sussex Council Approves $137,100 Bid to Replace Dangerous Ammonia Chiller at 8th Hussars Sports Centre

AMMONIA

Sussex council voted to replace an ammonia chiller at the 8th Hussars Sports Centre, identified as a significant safety risk. A bid of $137,100 from Black & McDonald Ltd. was accepted, pending provincial approval.

The chiller, which has surpassed its expected service life, is critical for maintaining ice rinks. A report indicated that the project is 45% below the $250,000 budgeted amount. The design and construction work was previously assigned to MCW Maricor for $9,500. The replacement is expected to be completed before the 2026 ice season, addressing safety concerns related to potential ammonia leaks.
