Sussex Council Approves $137,100 Bid to Replace Dangerous Ammonia Chiller at 8th Hussars Sports Centre
Sussex council has approved a $137,100 bid from Black & McDonald Ltd. to replace the ammonia chiller at the 8th Hussars Sports Centre, deemed the 'most dangerous piece of equipment in the town.' This decision follows a report highlighting the chiller's exceeded service life and the necessity to complete the replacement before the 2026 ice season. Engineering consultants MCW Maricor were hired for design and administration at a cost of $9,500. The replacement cost is 45% under the $250,000 budgeted for the project.
