Swainsthorpe Faces Encirclement by Proposed Solar Farms
Residents of Swainsthorpe are opposing plans for a new solar farm, fearing it will complete their village's encirclement by energy projects. With numerous renewable developments in the region, local councils are expressing concerns about industrialization and environmental impacts.

Swainsthorpe is facing a significant challenge as EDP Power Solutions proposes a 208-acre solar farm, which would further surround the village, already impacted by the Bloy's Grove Solar Farm. The area, known as Norfolk's Solar Valley, hosts multiple energy projects, including a major substation at Dunston and a converter station at Swardeston.
Local councils are raising alarms regarding the cumulative effect of existing and proposed projects on rural character and visual amenity. The South Norfolk Council requires an environmental impact assessment for the new scheme, reflecting growing local opposition to further solar developments.
