Swan Defence Secures ₹3,000 Crore Order for Ammonia-Fueled Bulk Carriers
Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited has received a ₹3,000 crore order from Energy ONE Ltd to construct four dual-fuel ammonia bulk carriers. This project marks a significant advancement in India's shipbuilding capabilities and contributes to global green shipping initiatives.

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) has been awarded a Category 4 order from Energy ONE Ltd, valued between ₹1,501 crore and ₹3,000 crore, for the construction of four dual-fuel ammonia bulk carriers. The first vessel is expected to be delivered by October 2029, with subsequent vessels at four-month intervals.
Each vessel will measure 229.5 meters in length and 37 meters in beam, featuring an ammonia-fueled propulsion system designed by KMS-EMEC from South Korea and classed by Det Norske Veritas (DNV). This order represents a pioneering effort in India's shipbuilding sector, aligning with a global push towards sustainable shipping solutions. The project is also supported by a USD 2 billion investment in zero-emission ships, indicating a growing confidence in the capabilities of Indian shipbuilders.
