The Swiss Federal Department of Defense has delayed the KASTRO II data center's completion to 2035, initially planned for 2023. Located in Mitholz, this facility is part of a CHF510 million upgrade for military data centers under the new digitalization platform.
While the other two data centers, CAMPUS and FUNDAMENT, are complete, KASTRO II's construction will begin in 2033. It will serve as a command node with enhanced IT security and will be accessible to emergency services in exceptional cases. The upgrade aims to modernize the Swiss Army's network, which is reaching performance limits.
