Sydney Water Ordered to Remove Fatberg; Coles Faces Legal Action for Discount Allegations
Sydney Water has been mandated by the Environment Protection Authority to eliminate fats from the Malabar wastewater treatment plant following the discovery of a large fatberg. This fatberg caused beach closures in New South Wales last summer. Additionally, the consumer watchdog has taken Coles to federal court for allegedly providing misleading discounts on groceries, which Coles denies.

The Environment Protection Authority has ordered Sydney Water to address the fatberg issue at the Malabar wastewater treatment plant, which is thought to be as large as four Sydney buses. This follows beach closures in New South Wales due to debris balls caused by the fatberg.
In a separate development, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has initiated legal action against Coles, accusing the supermarket of offering 'illusory' discounts on various products, a claim Coles refutes. These events reflect ongoing challenges in environmental management and consumer rights enforcement in Australia.
