Syria Signs Agreement for 700 MW Wind Power Project with Merv Energy
Syria's Ministry of Energy signed a 700 megawatt wind power project agreement on February 11 with Merv Energy National, aiming to install 140 wind turbines across multiple sites in Syria. The project intends to connect to the national electricity grid, enhancing generation capacity and supporting renewable energy expansion.
Locations for the turbines will be identified through studies. Energy Minister Mohammad al-Bashir and Merv Energy's CEO Valerina Elias were present during the signing, which marks the company's first involvement in an energy sector agreement. Economic expert Khaled Turkawi noted that renewable energy projects require significant investment, with costs for large turbines reaching up to $10 million each.
