Taiwan Legislative Deadlock Threatens HIMARS Delivery Schedule
Taiwan's government warns that the delivery of High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) may be jeopardized due to a failure to agree on a special defense budget. Legislative committees could not reach consensus on a NT$1.25 trillion budget and alternative proposals. This impasse has led to a one-month negotiation period among party caucuses, risking a delay in Taiwan's payment for additional HIMARS units scheduled for delivery starting in December.

Taiwan's legislative committees failed to agree on a special defense budget, endangering the delivery schedule for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS). The government proposed a NT$1.25 trillion budget, while alternative proposals included NT$400 billion and NT$380 billion packages.
The disagreements are set to delay negotiations for one month, potentially affecting a weapons deal with the US. Taiwan currently has 11 HIMARS systems and ordered 18 more, with initial deliveries expected in December. A payment deadline is approaching, and missing it could postpone delivery until year-end, as confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense.
