Taiwan Plans NT$44.2 Billion Investment to Establish Asia-Pacific Drone Hub by 2030
Taiwan aims to become an Asia-Pacific drone hub by creating a supply chain independent of mainland China, with an investment of NT$44.2 billion (US$1.38 billion) from 2025 to 2030. The initiative, led by Premier Cho Jung-tai, targets an annual output of NT$40 billion by 2030. Taiwan has about 250 companies in the drone sector and aims to enhance its industrial autonomy while entering supply chains of major Western drone manufacturers. However, political challenges and competition remain significant hurdles for achieving these goals.

There are concerns about political opposition to funding, delays in military procurement, and competition with DJI, which holds 70% of the global market. The Taiwanese government is also focusing on local production capabilities for defense resilience.
