Tajikistan Advances Hydropower Projects to Enhance Energy Security and Attract Investment
Tajikistan is enhancing its energy security and economic growth through hydropower projects, attracting international investors. At Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026, discussions with UAE's 40 Capital focused on small hydropower investments.
The Sebzor HPP, with a capacity of 11 MW, produces over 76 million kWh annually, funded by Germany and the EU. The construction of the Rogun HPP, with a capacity of 3,600 MW, is underway, supported by a $50 million concessional loan from the Qatar Fund for Development.
Agreements with Kazakhstan are set to improve electricity exports and agricultural security. These projects aim to establish Tajikistan as a regional energy hub, ensuring stable energy supply while navigating challenges related to financing and environmental compliance.
