Tallinn to Demolish Historic Electricity Pylons for Pollinator Highway
Tallinn's city government has approved the demolition of five high-voltage transmission towers as part of the Pollinator Highway project. The decision, made on December 19, 2025, follows the cancellation of a design competition for tower installations, citing financial and safety concerns.

The city of Tallinn will proceed with the demolition of five high-voltage transmission towers from 1959 to facilitate the Pollinator Highway project. This decision, announced by Mayor Peeter Raudsepp, stems from concerns over the towers' condition and cost, with estimates of €60,000 per tower for preservation deemed unreasonable.
The towers are located in Põhja-Tallinn, near Sõle, Ehte, Puhangu, and Kaera streets. Landscape architect Juhan Teppart has expressed concerns about losing historical landmarks and suggested that the towers could be preserved creatively. While the city aims for improved urban space, the decision reflects a shift from earlier preservation plans under the previous administration.
