Tamil Nadu Activists Criticize Central Government's Mining Exemption Policy
The Natural Resources Protection Federation of Tamil Nadu has condemned the Union government's 2025 policy exempting certain mining projects from public consultation. This decision raises concerns over the impact on local livelihoods and the lack of political accountability from major parties.

The Union government issued a 2025 notification exempting mining proposals for 30 strategic minerals, including tungsten, from mandatory public consultations. Activists from the Natural Resources Protection Federation of Tamil Nadu criticized this move, stating it undermines state rights and threatens local livelihoods.
Both the DMK and AIADMK have been accused of neglecting this issue in their election manifestos. This policy shift may lead to increased environmental degradation and reduced community engagement in decision-making processes.
