Tamil Nadu Approves 1,500 MWh Battery Storage Projects for Continuous Green Power Supply

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved three bidders for 1,500 MWh battery energy storage systems, totaling 400 MW. Maharashtra's Eagle Infra India Ltd will install five systems with 175 MW capacity, followed by Chennai's OPG Power Generation Pvt Ltd with another 175 MW, and Delhi's Onward Solar Power Pvt Ltd with a 25 MW system.

The systems will store and release up to 2.25 million units of green power daily. Bidders will operate the systems under a build-operate-transfer model for 12 to 15 years and receive viability gap funding of 18 lakh per MWh. This follows a previous 1,000 MWh project awarded by TN Green Energy Corporation.
