TANAKA Opens 500 kW Hydrogen Fuel Cell Facility in Japan
TANAKA PRECIOUS METAL TECHNOLOGIES has launched the TANAKA H2 Nexus, a 500 kW hydrogen fuel cell power generation facility, operational since July 8, 2026. This facility will supply approximately 34% of the electricity needed by the adjacent Shonan Plant, aligning with Japan's decarbonization goals and the transition to a hydrogen economy.

The TANAKA H2 Nexus facility, operational since July 8, 2026, is one of Japan's largest 500 kW pure hydrogen fuel cell power generation plants, located at TANAKA's Shonan Fuel Cell Power Plant in Hiratsuka. This facility is projected to provide around 34% of the Shonan Plant's electricity needs at maximum capacity.
It aims to enhance TANAKA’s hydrogen technologies while contributing to carbon emission reduction and energy security. The project is part of Japan's broader initiative to promote hydrogen as a sustainable energy source. The facility will also enable TANAKA to accumulate operational expertise in hydrogen utilization, facilitating further research and development.
