Tata Power to Invest ₹6,675 Crore in 10 GW Solar Facility in Nellore to Support India's AI Revolution
Tata Power Renewable Energy is investing ₹6,675 crore in a 10 GW solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. This facility is essential for powering India's shift to 'Physical AI', which demands significant energy due to the increasing use of autonomous robots, electric vehicles, and smart factories.
India's electricity demand is projected to reach 817 TWh by 2030, with AI workloads expected to contribute 50 TWh annually, accounting for 20% of incremental power demand growth. The site will also include a 200 MW captive green power plant, promoting energy sovereignty. Additionally, battery storage capacity in India is set to increase nearly ten-fold to 5 GWh in 2026, addressing the intermittency issues of renewable energy.
