Tata Steel and Kraftblock Complete Year-Long Pilot of Thermal Energy Storage System in Jamshedpur
Tata Steel, in partnership with Kraftblock GmbH, has successfully operated a thermal energy storage system at Sinter Plant No.3 in Jamshedpur for one year. The system captures and stores high-temperature waste heat from the sintering process, improving productivity and reducing carbon emissions by 22,000 tons annually.

Tata Steel and Kraftblock GmbH have completed a year of operations for a thermal energy storage system at Sinter Plant No.3 in Jamshedpur. This system recovers high-temperature waste heat from the sintering process, which is then used to warm process water, resulting in reduced fuel use and improved productivity.
The initiative lowers carbon emissions by 22,000 tons annually, demonstrating a scalable pathway to more energy-efficient steelmaking. The successful implementation opens opportunities for deployment across other high-temperature processes in steel production.
