Taylor and Pontiac Impose Moratoriums on Data Centers Amid Community Concerns

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Taylor City Council unanimously enacted a one-year moratorium on data center applications to review ordinances and protect residents from potential impacts. Pontiac also approved a six-month moratorium for similar reasons, with a focus on health, utilities, and infrastructure effects.

Both cities aim to develop regulations in light of increasing interest in data center projects, amid concerns about noise, pollution, and utility demands. Nearby communities, including Northville and Springfield Township, have also implemented moratoriums. Lyon Township is planning a large data center project, while others face community opposition.
