TeraWulf Plans Multibillion-Dollar Data Center in Kentucky Amid Community Benefit Discussions
TeraWulf has acquired a site in Kentucky for a multibillion-dollar data center, emphasizing community benefits amid rising public concerns. The New York Build 2026 panel highlighted the necessity of addressing local impacts to secure project approvals.

TeraWulf is set to develop a multibillion-dollar data center in Hawesville, Kentucky, leveraging access to 480 megawatts of power and proximity to major metropolitan areas. The company has contracted Fluor to commence construction on this brownfield project.
Panelists at New York Build 2026 emphasized that developers need to demonstrate community benefits to mitigate public pushback, which poses a significant risk to data center projects. Community benefits may include affordable housing, job creation, and infrastructure investments.
Concerns regarding energy consumption and environmental impacts underscore the necessity of addressing local sentiments. Existing data center initiatives by companies like Meta and Amazon highlight similar commitments to community investment.
