Thailand Increases Funding for Green Energy R&D to Support Hydrogen Initiatives

HYDROGEN

Thailand is enhancing its funding for research and development in alternative energy, particularly hydrogen, as part of its strategy to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The Energy Conservation Fund will distribute the budget, which is yet to be determined by the government.

The fund, financed by a contribution of 0.05 baht per litre of fuel, supports energy efficiency and alternative fuel development. A notable project is a green hydrogen study at Kasetsart University, where researchers produce 10 litres of hydrogen per hour using solar-powered electrolysis.

The Energy Conservation Fund has allocated 9.4 million baht for this project, which includes exploring hydrogen storage solutions. Officials emphasize that hydrogen is vital for diversifying energy sources and reducing fossil fuel reliance in Thailand's energy transition.
