The BESSt Company Launches High-Energy Density Zinc-Polyiodide Flow Battery in the US

The BESSt Company, a US startup, has introduced a zinc-polyiodide flow battery that combines high energy density with durability and safety, targeting long-term energy storage solutions. Developed from technology originally created at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, the battery achieves an energy density of 320 Wh/l, significantly outperforming typical vanadium systems.

The system is designed for integration with renewable energy sources and can store energy for extended periods without quality degradation. Planned applications include home energy storage systems (20 kW/25 kWh), commercial installations (40 kW/100 kWh), and industrial solutions (200 kW to 2.4 MW with up to 1.6 MWh capacity). With a lifespan of 20-30 years and a 30-year warranty, the technology aims to lower energy costs while maintaining environmental sustainability through the use of abundant materials like zinc and iodine.
