Thessaloniki Airport Launches Greece's First Regional Photovoltaic Park
Thessaloniki Airport 'Makedonia' has inaugurated Greece's first photovoltaic park at a regional airport. The project, with a capacity of 3 MWp, is expected to generate 4.5 GWh annually, significantly reducing the airport's carbon footprint and energy reliance.

Thessaloniki Airport 'Makedonia' has completed the installation of a photovoltaic park with a capacity of approximately 3 MWp. This facility, covering 35,000 square meters and equipped with 4,877 solar panels, will produce around 4.5 GWh of electricity each year, sufficient for about 1,100 households.
The project, funded entirely by Fraport Greece at an investment of 3.4 million euros, began construction in March 2025 and concluded in December 2025. It is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 3,000 tons annually, achieving a 30% decrease in the airport's carbon footprint.
The contractor was Damco, and engineering studies were conducted by Redex. This initiative aligns with Fraport Greece's sustainability strategy, enhancing energy autonomy and supporting environmental goals.
