thyssenkrupp Steel to Supply bluemint® Recycled Steel for BMW iX3 Production Starting 2026
Thyssenkrupp Steel will supply bluemint® recycled steel to BMW Group for the iX3 starting in 2026. This CO₂-reduced steel will be used for outer panels and battery housing, meeting high quality and safety standards without production adaptations. The material enhances sustainability in the automotive industry by incorporating a high proportion of recycled content and achieving significant CO₂ savings. Thyssenkrupp aims for carbon-neutral steel production by 2045 with a new hydrogen-capable facility.

Thyssenkrupp Steel will supply bluemint® recycled steel to BMW Group for series production of the BMW iX3 beginning in 2026, specifically for outer panels and battery housing. This CO₂-reduced steel offers the same properties as conventional steel and meets stringent quality and safety standards without requiring process changes.
The material is produced using a method that integrates recycled scrap, reducing CO₂ emissions significantly. The use of bluemint® recycled in the iX3's components supports sustainable mobility, while thyssenkrupp aims for carbon-neutral steel production through a new hydrogen-capable reduction plant, targeting full conversion by 2045.
