TMC's Seabed Mining Application Approved for US Compliance; Decision Expected by Q1 2027
The Metals Co's application for deep seabed mineral exploration has been deemed compliant with US federal regulations. Approval is anticipated by the end of Q1 2027, amidst rising interest in seabed mining for critical minerals.

The Metals Co (TMC) announced that U.S. regulators have confirmed its application for deep seabed mineral exploration adheres to federal requirements. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has verified compliance under the Deep Seabed Hard Mineral Resources Act, allowing TMC to proceed with its project.
The company expects the regulatory process, including an environmental review, to be finalized by the end of Q1 2027. This regulatory momentum occurs as the Trump administration promotes deep-sea exploration for critical minerals, which may face environmental opposition. TMC aims to recover polymetallic nodules containing metals crucial for various industries, marking a significant step in U.S. seabed resource extraction efforts.
