TNERC Approves 500 MW Pumped Storage Tariff with Greenko
The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission has sanctioned a tariff for 500 MW of pumped storage capacity, crucial for addressing the state's peak power demand. This move facilitates a four-year agreement with Greenko AP01 IREP Private Limited, enhancing energy reliability in Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission approved a tariff for 500 MW of pumped storage capacity from Greenko AP01 IREP Private Limited to meet rising peak demand. The order, issued on April 30, establishes an annual fixed charge of Rs 123 lakh per MW and accounts for a cycle loss of 22.5%, resulting in a total annual storage cost of Rs 150.675 lakh per MW.
Located in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, the project will deliver stored energy with a discharge capability of nine hours daily, particularly catering to evening peak demand. This development may improve energy stability in Tamil Nadu, but the reliance on external sources could pose risks to long-term supply sustainability.
