Tokyo Gas Secures 25-Year Wind Energy Agreement with Renova-Backed Project
Tokyo Gas has entered a 25-year power purchase agreement for a 54.6 MW wind farm in Kumamoto, Japan, enhancing its renewable energy portfolio. This aligns with Japan's strategy to increase renewable energy share to 40-50% by 2040, amid rising domestic energy demands.

Tokyo Gas has signed a 25-year agreement to procure power from the Reihoku-Amakusa wind project, which is being developed by Reihoku Wind, a consortium supported by Renova. The project, located in Kumamoto prefecture, will feature 13 Vestas turbines with a combined capacity of 54.6 MW and is expected to begin operations in 2027, generating approximately 109,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually.
This deal supports Tokyo Gas's goal to increase renewable assets to 6 GW by 2030, a significant rise from its current 1.5 GW. As Japan aims for a renewable energy share of 40-50% by 2040, the importance of long-term procurement agreements becomes crucial in managing supply needs and diversifying energy sources. The collaboration also paves the way for Tokyo Gas to invest in additional onshore wind projects in Japan.
