TommyCarts Revolutionize Recycling in U.S. Construction Industry
Burns Services' TommyCart, designed for efficient recycling, is gaining traction across multiple construction sites in the U.S., significantly improving material recovery rates. The firm aims to increase production to 3,000 units by 2027, responding to growing demand and industry standards.

Burns Services has developed the TommyCart, a bar-coded, welded-steel recycling wagon, for enhanced sorting and selling of recyclables. Since its first rollout in 2015, the company has produced an average of 500 carts annually, with plans to double output by 2027.
The TommyCarts facilitate the recovery of approximately 80% of recyclables collected. The firm also faces challenges, such as fires from lithium-ion batteries and the need for automation to meet increased demand.
Workers earn between $16.50 and $38 per hour, with potential earnings surpassing $50,000 annually. The introduction of TommyCarts has led to significant operational efficiencies, positioning Burns as a leader in construction recycling.
