TOMRA XRT Technology Enhances Tungsten Recovery at Saloro Mine in Spain
TOMRA Mining's X-Ray Transmission (XRT) sorter installed at Saloro's tungsten mine boosts head grade and reduces processing costs. This development is vital as tungsten remains a critical raw material, with the Saloro mine being one of the few high-grade producers outside China.

In July 2023, TOMRA Mining installed a COM Tertiary XRT ore sorter at Saloro's tungsten mine in Barruecopardo, Spain. The sorter processes raw material at approximately 30 tons per hour, achieving over 90% recovery of scheelite while removing 85-90% of host rock before further processing.
The technology allows detection of tungsten inclusions as small as 1 mm, significantly enhancing the head grade delivered to the processing plant. Positive results from preliminary testing in 2019 led Saloro to choose TOMRA for its reliability and rapid supply time. Saloro plans to procure additional XRT sorters to further increase feed grade and optimize production efficiency.
