Topeka Initiates Multi-Year Fire Hydrant and Valve Inspection Project
Topeka's Utilities Department has launched a multi-year project to inspect over 5,600 fire hydrants and 16,600 water valves. This initiative aims to enhance water quality and system reliability while providing critical data for infrastructure management.

The city of Topeka is collaborating with Hydromax USA to inspect all fire hydrants and water valves over the next several years. Beginning June 1, 2026, Hydromax crews will inventory and assess more than 5,600 hydrants and 16,600 valves across the city, performing routine flushing and evaluating system condition.
This project will yield real-time insights into water system performance and assist in planning maintenance. Temporary service disruptions are not expected, although residents may experience brief discoloration of water during tests. The initiative will ensure reliable water service and proactive infrastructure management.
