Toshiba Partners with Bulgaria for Chaira Hydropower Plant Restoration
Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation will lead the restoration of Chaira PSHPP in Bulgaria, focusing on immediate repairs and long-term modernization. This collaboration is vital for enhancing Bulgaria's energy security and operational efficiency.

Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation has secured an agreement with the Bulgarian government for the restoration of the Chaira pumped-storage hydropower plant (PSHPP). The initiative includes immediate repairs, with a public tender for hydro unit 1 repair expected within two weeks of the September 2024 agreements, and a long-term plan for replacing critical components.
Toshiba, as the original equipment manufacturer, will oversee the repair efforts, essential for maintaining the plant's reliable operation. The National Electricity Company (NEK) aims to ensure the sustainable long-term operation of the facility, following the rehabilitation of hydro unit 2 announced on December 23, 2024. This partnership underscores the importance of Toshiba’s involvement in securing Bulgaria's power infrastructure.
