TotalEnergies and Casa dos Ventos Partner to Develop 12 GW Renewable Energy Portfolio in Brazil
Brazil generates 50% of its primary energy from renewable sources and 90% of its electricity from low-carbon sources. The country is experiencing growth in wind and solar power, particularly in the northeast, alongside increasing oil and gas production.
TotalEnergies has partnered with Casa dos Ventos to develop a 12 GW renewable energy portfolio, leveraging local expertise and major projects like the Rio do Vento wind farm. However, the rapid increase in renewable energy is straining the grid, necessitating investments in grid infrastructure and battery storage solutions.
Brazil's oil production, currently at 4 million barrels per day, is essential for economic stability, supported by projects in the pre-salt region, such as the Mero field which has grown to 650,000 barrels per day. TotalEnergies focuses on low-emission oil projects, aiming to reduce methane emissions by 80% by 2030.
